Citizenship ceremonies

Citizenship ceremonies are required for successful applicants to formally get British citizenship.

The process starts when you apply to UK Visas and Immigration for British Citizenship.

Booking a ceremony

If your application for British Citizenship is successful, you'll get invitation letter from the Home Office to attend a Citizenship Ceremony.

Fill in the enquiry form and we will contact you to book your ceremony.

Group ceremonies take place on Mondays at 10am. If you would like a private ceremony on a different day or time, let us know (a fee applies).

Make an enquiry

Make sure you keep the Home Office letter confirming you have been successful. You will need to show this when you attend your ceremony, along with your photo ID.

Document check

Before the ceremony starts, you will be asked to show your invitation and photo ID to the Registrar who will host the ceremony.

Allegiance Oath or Affirmation

After speeches of welcome, the Registrar will invite you to swear the Oath of Allegiance or speak the Affirmation of Allegiance. This is chosen when you book.

If you are going to swear the Oath before Almighty God, you may have a holy book with you.

This is followed by making a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom.

The ceremony is closed with the playing of the National Anthem. The ceremony lasts approximately 40 minutes.

Citizenship certificate

You will get your citizenship certificate on the day of the ceremony.

Fees

You will have already paid for the group ceremony as part of the British Citizenship application.

A private ceremony can be arranged for £170.
