Update from the Leader - 8 May

Cllr Mary Temperton

One year ago, the local elections in Bracknell Forest resulted in a change of administration after 25 years of Conservative control.

The council is now run by Labour, with 22 Labour members, 10 Conservatives, 7 Liberal Democrats and 2 Green Party members.

The council has completely changed and there has been a real drive across all parties to make sure we work together to make the differences needed to make Bracknell Forest an even better place to live and work in.

When I became Leader, I promised to make the council more transparent and accessible. I vowed to take the council to the residents, to listen to your concerns and issues and to keep you informed. I am proud to have achieved this.

The budget consultation was taken to the libraries, community centres and into Bracknell town centre, a total of 12 different locations.

There have since been consultations on the Housing Allocation Policy and the Transport and Youth Provision. The number of responses show you welcome the chance to be heard. We are listening and have adapted the policies as a result.

The plans for the development of the town centre areas near the library, the bus station, and for the area of the closed High Street car park are now being consulted on.

It was good to meet many of you during the two days when the display was in Princess Square. It has since been shown in Bracknell and Harmans Water libraries and now is available in Birch Hill Library until 2pm on Friday 10 May. It will also be available in Great Hollands Library from 3pm on Friday 10 May to 3pm on Wednesday 15 May.

You can view the plans and give feedback on our consultation page.
